Fifty one employees of PENELCO were so lucky to have been given a chance by RGM Marcelino to see, watch and hear Dr. John C. Maxwell live in Manila at the Araneta Coliseum and PICC Plenary Hall last September 15 and 16. It was a very wonderful experience to hear him speak and talk about his books which he had written himself; The 21Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork. It was only last year that Engr. Marcelino found the John Maxwell leadership book and he was so impressed by it so that he bought some and urged coop employees to read them also. Not yet contented with just reading, he gave instruction to his staff to conduct series of seminars for coop employees regarding leadership and teamwork written by Maxwell. Said seminars have become an eye opener to most employees and have influenced them in their way of life and even changed their work habits for the better.
This time on September 15 & 16, they did not only read the book but even heard and seen the author of the book live, and it was a very different experience seeing John Maxwell face to face and hear him talk about his innermost feelings about attitude, about leadership and about relationship with God. It was really an overwhelming feeling.
The following are the topics that really caught the attention of the audience and may be very helpful to many. MAKING GOOD DECISIONS BETTER
"Once a decision is made, stop worrying and start working"
TODAY Matters "Successful people make right decisions early and manage those decisions early."
Note: it is not always what we know or analyze before we make a decisions that makes it a good decision. It is what we do after we make the decision to implement and execute it that makes it a good decision... maybe even a great one!
The 3R's of Prioritizing
What is "required" of me?
What gives me the greatest "return"? What is "rewarding" to me?
The DNA of Good Decision-Making 1. Evidence - specific facts that can be independently verified.Beware of over confidence. Accuracy reflects what we know, while confidence reflects what we think we know.
2. Observation - direct experience or understanding of an issue.
a) Think and Observe
b) See and Observe
c) Do and Observe
3. Feedback - impressions gleaned from asking others for their input about a decision. The most effective decision flow from your ability to ask the right person the right question at the right time.
4. Intuition - evaluating the intangible elements of the decision through it.If your mind says, "yes" but your heart says "no", don't!
DISCIPLINE
Most people want to avoid pain, and discipline is often painful. But we need to recognize that there are really two kinds of pain when it comes to our daily conduct. There's the pain of self-discipline and the pain of regret. Many people avoid the pain of self-discipline because it's the easy thing to do. What they may not realize is that the pain of self-discipline is momentary but the pay off is long-lasting.
