The National Electrification Administration conducted their Annual NEA/EC Consultative Conference and Awarding Ceremonies at the Phil. Trade Center. PENELCO bagged 5 awards, including the Leadership Award for Engr. LORETO A. MARCELINO given by Fr. Francisco Silva for his immense contribution in the continued development of countryside electrification thru credible leadership and management of the cooperative, thereby, commanding the respect and support of his peers and subordinates.

Though PENELCO was not able to get the Emmanuel Pelaez award, it was still declared as an Outstanding Electric Cooperative in recognition of its exceptional good performance in serving its member-consumers by complying to the rigid demands of the new energy industry. These two major awards were obtained for setting a sterling example in the area of sound cooperative operation towards the goals of the rural electrification program.

Other awards received by PENELCO were as follows:

1. Special Citation Award - for its striking show of solidarity and support with other electric cooperatives thru the voluntary exchange of knowledge, expertise, manpower and resources to help in the rehabilitation of other electric utilities.

2. Exemplary Payor Award - for faithfully honoring its financial obligations to the NEA in deference to the agency's standing lender, thereby, strengthening its image as a credit-worthy ooperative.

3. Highest Amortization Payment Award- for remitting the highest absolute amount in amortization payments that contributed largely to its improved standing in the electric cooperative roster and enhanced financial standing of NEA.

Again, the PENELCO management attributes this achievements & recognition to the unwavering support of local officials and for the continuous cooperation of member-consumers. (M. Oliveria)
