PENELCO JOINS 2011 INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY

In line with the observance of the 2011 International Coastal Clean-Up Day, the City/Provincial Government and the Bataan Integrated Coastal Management conducted a Local Coastal Clean-Up Activity that was held last September 17, 2011. This year’s theme for the local observance was “Linis Ilog, Linis Dagat… Araw-Araw Dapat”.
Mr. Gabriel Mondragon, the Environmentalist and Green Care National trainer, was the guest speaker in the activity. He was thankful for the Bataenos because many sectors from different government agencies participated in the activity. Mr. Mondragon reminded the participants the importance of proper disposal of waste materials. Because according to his example, it will take 20 long years to decompose wastes made of Styrofoam in a body of water. 500 years, on the other hand, will it take to decompose wastes made of cellophane and 1,000 years to decompose wastes made of glass. After a short program, all participants were deployed to their respective areas to clean. The PENELCO participants, composed of nine (9) regular and ten (10) project employees, were designated at Cupang Proper, Balanga City along Sto. Niño and Kapihan River which needed approximately one kilometer of travel to reach. The activity ended at around 9:30 in the morning. |
