Penelco’s 12th Owned Substation on its Way   Print  E-mail

The construction of PENELCO 5MVA substations in the municipalities of Bagac and Morong is now ongoing.

These two towns of Western Bataan is presently drawing its electric power from the 5MVA substations owned by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). Only one feeder circuit breaker is allocated to PENELCO to protect from the technical faults for the whole municipality. Thus, we cannot claim the reliability is at its par.

Upon completion, four (4) feeders will be made available (for each substation). As a result, the percentage power outage will be reduced to one-fourth, in case one of the four feeders malfunctioned.

At present, the Power Substation and Subtransmission Department (PSSD) technical staff has installed the power transformer, switchgear and protection relays for Bagac Substation. Through the assistance of the technical people of the equipment supplier, the substation is now ready for testing and commissioning.

Relevant documents regarding the application for energization of Bagac Substation will be submitted to NGCP by October 2009.

On the other hand, Morong Substation is approximately 70% completed.

If all goes well, the tapping and energization of Bagac Substation will commence on the last quarter of this year. This is another major project milestone of PENELCO for the benefit of its memberconsumers.
