Stakeholders in the power industry sector, their foreign counterparts and some government officials recently convened for the International Convention on Rural Electrification (I-CORE) and the 40th anniversary celebration of the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
The events happened at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Grounds, Pasay City from August 3-5, 2009. The 3-day affair featured audio-visual presentations, product exhibition, cultural presentations, forums and discussions.
The activities were intended to share the forty years of struggles and triumphs encountered to achieve the present status of the nation’s rural electrification program thru NEA alongside the electric cooperatives of the country and other government and private institutions. The pillars of the electrification program were also recognized and given tribute during the event. Likewise, topics on renewable energy sources and stateof-the-art technologies as complementary means for the ECs to take on to continuously provide efficient service and affordable electricity to member-consumers and on new government policies and directions to prepare the ECs in positioning themselves in a constantly changing power industry were discussed.
Most of our directors, namely: Pres. Bibet Fuster, Vice-Pres. Bert Villaruz, Sec. Benjie Estrella, Treas. Edna Cruz, Dir. Leila Munoz, Dir. Mario Rubia, Dir. Bong Pizarro, Dir. Enteng dela Fuente, Dir. Carling Enriquez , Dir. Mori Bernales, and Dir. Gene dela Fuente attended the international convention. GM Marcelino and Dir. Danny Ricardo were not able to attend since they were out of the country on official business but were represented by then OIC Ms. Sol Tria and Ms. Liza Samson.
The international convention resonated the importance of the rural electrification program in providing a difference in the way of life in every Filipino rural folk.
It is one government program that linked many presidents from Marcos to Macapagal-Arroyo and as a result electricity paved the way for economic progress even on the countryside. |
