The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) was a government-owned and controlled corporation created in 2001 through the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA). It assumed the electrical transmission functions of the National Power Corporation (NPC) which included the planning, construction and centralized operation and maintenance of high-voltage transmission facilities, grid interconnections and ancillary services. TransCo has the unique and crucial role of linking power plants owned by NPC and independent power producers (IPPs) to the country’s 123 distribution utilities and electric cooperatives which in turn deliver electricity to endusers, in our case the memberconsumers. Republic Act No. 9136 (EPIRA) mandates the award in open competitive bidding of transmission facilities, including grid interconnections and ancilliary services to a qualified party.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) thru R.A. 9511, was granted a congressional franchise to engage in the transmission business. And it is poised to perform its role to construct, finance, operate, and maintain the facilities and assets of the national transmission grid.
NGCP, assumed full operations of TransCo last January 15, 2009. It was nice to have worked with TransCo for the past years and we look forward to working with NGCP. (by: Engr. Tony Paguio) |
