Power Substation and Sub-transmission Department, (PSSD) together with the assistance of Engineering Services Department (ESD) spearheaded the replacement of PENELCO Main Office 10MVA Substation Protection and Control.

The existing swicthgear has four 13.2kV feeder breaker without main breaker and differential relay.This switchgear has accumulated a flash-over on its bus insulator that causes breakdown/failure of feeder circuit breakers.

PSSD upgraded the switchgear and control to a more reliable,state of the art and user friendly protection relays.This new switchgear is hermetically sealed type tested and maintenance free, called the CGMCOSMOS system of modular type, it has a compact cubicles with integral SF6 isolation for Medium Voltage electric distribution system.

Likewise, the 10MVA Power Transformer which is the heart and soul of the electric coop on the distribution of electric power is now protected by a Microprocessor Differential Relay. Also, a 15kV Main Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) was added to supplement the four (4) Feeder Vacuum Circuit Breakers. This VCB has three position disconnector, the closed, disconnected and earth.

As a result, PENELCO General Manager Eng’r. Loreto A. Marcelino commended the Power Substation and Subtransmission Department together with the Engineering Services Department for a job well done.
