On 10 November 2005, PENELCO Board President Nerisa D. Medina signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Nextream Technology Group, Inc. which has the technology to propagate Broadband over Power Lines (BPL). The MOA is setting-up a joint venture to operate the BPL in Bataan.
Secretary Francisco G. Silva and Ret. General Pedro G. Dumol, the advocates of broadband over power line, together with the Board of Directors and General Managers of some electric cooperatives (ECs) in Luzon and Visayan regions traveled to PENELCO to witness the momentous signing of MOA. The BPL project, which PENELCO shall pioneer in the country, will entail three services through power lines: (1) cable television, (2) telephone, and (3) internet connection. The Nextream-USA represented by Mr. Tyrone Javellana (CEO), Mr. Bill Draughon (BOD), Mr. Gary Cedeno (CFO), Mr. Carlos London (VP-Latin America) and Mr. Michael Metsch (Marketing Director) visited Bataan to look at the system facility in the co-op, which is initially installed and operational in PENELCO compound.
In his speech, Mr. Javellana expressed his eagerness to elevate the learning system in the country through internet access. Mr. Javellana, a Fil-American said that Filipinos always have room in his heart, prompting him to put the project in the country.
On the other hand, the PENELCO management spearheaded by its General Manager Engr. Loreto A. Marcelino believes that communication and information technology can help attain the economic objectives by increasing productivity. The joint venture aims to promote and improve the education and better learning of Filipino students particularly in the province of Bataan through access to internet.
In no time, the electrical distribution system of PENELCO will provide four (4) distinct services (1) electric power (2) internet connection, (3) telephone lines and (4) cable television. (ACGonzales) |
