Co-op holds Special General Membership Assembly   Print  E-mail
PENELCO conducted its Special General Membership Assembly/Meeting on November 12, 2005 at the Solidarity Hall of the Main Office. The event was attended by 2,689 consumers from all over the province to take part in the momentous event. The occasion was graced by Representatives Tony Roman and Abet Garcia; Mayors Nelson David (Mayor's League President), Boying Banzon, Tonypep Raymundo, Charlie Pizarro, Rolly Tigas, Bonjong Pascual, Armando Ramos, Joel Payumo; Vice-Mayor Tagle; other local officials; and organizations.

The guest speaker was no less than NEA Administrator Edita S. Bueno who shared her thoughts on the need of electric coops to remain reliable and competitive in terms of service provision to its members-consumers. Other speakers of the program were Mayor David who spoke in behalf of the Mayor's League and the two congressmen: Cong. Garcia and Cong. Roman who imparted their message of support to PENELCO. For their part, Board President Nerisa Medina delivered PENELCO's accomplishment report and GM Loreto Marcelino reported on the five-year development plan of the co-op which included the broadband over power lines project of PENELCO in cooperation with Nextream Technology.

This particular campaign of BPL solicited much interest among the members-consumers for this promises to be very crucial and helpful for us. Imagine, internet, cable tv, and voice over internet protocol (telephone) can be accessed the same way we use our electric appliances, very promising and useful especially for the youth in the far away sitios and the future industries that will be set up in the province.

The Special Assembly not only gave opportunity for consumers to get acquainted with one another but more importantly, decide on some pressing issues at hand - amendment of existing PENELCO by-laws. The Assembly decided that the number of districts be twelve (12) instead of the existing seven (7) and that there will now be one (1) director/representation for every municipality/city. Other proposals and suggestions were raised during the meeting but all of the proceedings will have to be approved by the National Electrification Administration as the governing body for all electric cooperatives.

As they say change is the only thing that is constant in this world. We may not always agree on issues and concerns but what is important is that we follow and abide by the process and the system. We at PENELCO welcome every challenge and treat it as if it is an opportunity waiting to be revealed. We would like to thank all members-consumers who took time off their schedule to attend our assembly/meeting.
